Mascara

Mascara, a cosmetic commonly used to enhance the eyes, darkens, thickens, lengthens, and/or defines the eyelashes. The Collins English Dictionary defines mascara as “a cosmetic substance for darkening, coloring, and thickening the eyelashes, applied with a brush or rod.” The Oxford English Dictionary adds that mascara is occasionally used on the eyebrows as well.
Available in a variety of forms and colours, choosing the perfect mascara can be confusing. A favourite among most women is the lengthening mascara. It has thick bristles which help in the application of mascara on the tips of the lashes, allowing the user to get more mascara on the lashes. Thickening mascara products on the other hand contain a thicker formula of silicone and wax that coat lashes making them appear thick and luscious. Waterproof mascara is another popular formula as it contains a special synthetic formula that repels moisture. Here are some of the best tips for applying mascara that guarantee perfect lashes:
Lengthening mascara is the best choice for the day time, while thickening mascara is recommended for nights out.

For dark eye lashes, dark brown or black mascara can be used. Choosing light brown mascara is ideal for red or blonde eye lashes for a casual look and dark brown for a night out.

Step 4: Place the mascara wand under the upper eye lashes and move it upwards in a zig-zag motion so that the eye lashes are separated. Step 5: Use less mascara on the lower lashes. Step 6: It is a must to remove any mascara around the eye using cotton.

I have small eyes and refuse to leave the house without mascara because the moment mascara is applied my eyes suddenly appear to be of normal size.

Here I share my mascara tricks and tips, plus how to properly apply mascara.

How to Properly Apply Mascara
Ace your mascara application with a three-step process:

Step 1: Wiggle the wand left to right at the base of lashes.
Step 2: Pull the wand up and through lashes, wiggling as you go.
Step 3: In this final step (which I always skip), close the eye and place the mascara wand on top of lashes at the base and pull through to remove any clumps.

Pick the Best Mascara for You
Learn more about your options in How to Pick the Right Mascara Formula.

You can get a good basic drugstore mascara or spend more money on a luxurious mascara. See Should you splurge on mascara, or save?.

I prefer  use waterproof mascara in summer time or when skiing. Never try mascara on at a department store, there's too much risk for infection. How to Keep Lashes From Clumping
To use a lash comb, first apply mascara at the lash base, then wiggle the lash comb through to the tips of your lashes.

Not into the lash comb? Get rid of clumbs without them by removing excess mascara from the wand.
Recycle an old mascara wand if you don't want to bother with spoolies. When you finish a mascara, clean the wand in a cap-full of eye makeup remover, then wash with soap and dry. Don't Be Afraid to Mix Mascaras
A trick makeup artists use to make lashes pop is apply one coat of lengthening mascara, followed by one coat of thickening mascara. Try a Colored Mascara
Burgundy or plum colors make blue eyes pop, as do blue mascaras. Purple mascara looks great on brown eyes.
Shoot warm air from your blowdryer on the mascara curler for 3-5 seconds to warm it up before curling lashes. It's a myth that you have to curl lashes before you apply mascara. You can curl lashes after mascara application, just make sure the mascara is dry first. Zig-zag the Mascara Wand
Apply to Top Lashes Only
Many makeup artists recommend applying mascara only to the top lashes (I abide by this rule). If you want to make eyes appear wider, apply mascara to the bottom lashes but make sure you give lashes a light touch. Use a Mascara Primer
Primers coat lashes and separate them before you apply mascara. Makeup artists swear by mascara primer. What it Means to "Apply a 2nd Coat" of Mascara
I was always confused by magazine's directives to coat eyelashes with "no more than 3 coats of mascara." Bend the Wand
Since I have long lashes, I try to wait 5 seconds before blinking after I apply mascara or I end up with mascara dots all along my lid.

Eye Shadow

Eye shadow is a cosmetic that is applied on the eyelids and under the eyebrows. Eye shadow adds depth and dimension to one's eyes, complements the eye color, or simply draws attention to the eyes. Eye shadow comes in many different colors and textures. In Gothic fashion, black or similarly dark-colored eye shadow and other types of eye makeup are popular amongst both genders.

The use of eye shadow attempts to replicate the natural eye shadow that some women exhibit due to a natural contrasting pigmentation on their eyelids. A powder eye shadow palette with brown shades for normal day wear; the two center colors are sparkly while the silver and white shades are for creating shadows and highlights.

Eye shadow can be applied in a variety of ways depending upon the desired look and formulation. The most important aspect of applying eye shadow, and makeup in general, is blending well.

To remove eye shadow, a commercial eye makeup remover can be utilized, though a rich face wash will usually remove all traces of color. Eye shadow, eyeliner, and mascara may also be removed using baby oil. Eye shadow is a makeup essential and applying it right can make the difference between sex appeal and less than appealing. For eyeshadow application invest in the following tool:

Makeup Brushes: Purchase a set of natural hair makeup brushes to achieve the perfect look. These will help apply eyeshadow evenly and in the proper place.     Three Shades of Eyeshadow: When you're buying eyeshadow it's best by eyeshadow sets with three or more colors. Applying Your Eye Shadow

Apply a foundation that matches your skin tone to your eye lid and the surrounding area.     Apply Lightest Shade: The lightest eyeshadow shade acts as a highlighter and is applied first.     Apply Medium Shade: Using a brush that will fit within the confines or your eye lid. brush the medium color across your lid.     Apply Darkest Shade: The darkest shade of eyeshadow is used to create a dramatic and sultry look. Using a thinner brush apply the dark shade to your eye's natural creases which fall between the curve of your eyebrow and your actual eye lid.

Depending on your choice of eye liner (wet or dry) apply it to the rim of your eyes. Eye Shadow's primary purpose is to enhance the eye's shape. There are two basic ways to apply eye shadow in shape shading, "rounded" and "winged. Eye shadows come in in several textures, powders (compacts), pencils, and creams. Three coordinating eye shadow shades that define, highlight and accentuate any eye color. Always apply a lighter shade under the brow bone to highlight the eyes and darker shades on the lid and the crease of the eye. Using a large, flat eyeshadow brush, apply a light shadow color over your entire eyelid from lash line to brow. Choose a fine brush for the eyeshadow application. Choose an eyeshadow color that matches your dress, eye color and face makeup.

Eyeshadow Application Tips

1. Before using eye-shadow, use a little powder on the eyelid as a base.

2. Eye-shadow is available in many shades. On black eyes, chocolate, green or mauve shades are preferred.

3. Apply the darkest shade to the outer corners of the eyes from lash line to the crease.

4. Apply the medium shade on the lower lid.

Hairstyle

Physical factors include natural hair type and growth pattern, face and head shape from various angles, and overall body proportions; medical considerations may also apply. A hairstyle is achieved by arranging hair in a certain way, occasionally using combs, a blow-dryer, gel, or other products. The practice of styling hair is often called "Hairdressing."

When you have thinner hair, it can be hard to find the right hairstyle that will not only compliment your facial shape but also perhaps hide the thinning spots of your hair as well. There are millions of people who have thin or fine hair that may not go well with absolutely every hairstyle, but there are many great hairstyles that can compliment your hair and your style.

As men and women both experience thinning and fine hair, men have to be just as careful with their hairstyles as women. For men the absolute best hairstyle and cut to go with is of course the short hairstyle. If you hair is too fine for this look than there is nothing wrong with leaving your hair short and not styled. As a woman, it is not as easy to find the best hairstyles to compliment their thin or fine hair. Short hairstyles are known for taking the attention away from your hair and back to your face.

The side swept bangs are very popular for 2008 and they are perfect for thinning hair because they bring attention to your face and add a bit of volume to your hair cut at the same time. To create the appearance of thicker and fuller hair all you have to do is pin your hair behind your ears. If you are attached to your long hair, there are several different styles you can go with in order to hide your thinning or fine hair and make it appear as though you have a thick head of hair.

Any style that allows you to pull your hair up into a fancy up-do or even just a pony tail can help you minimize the look of thinning hair. You are not alone, there are millions of people who have the same thinning hair problem and are looking for great hairstyles to disguise it. When you begin to search for that perfect long hairstyle, medium hairstyle or short hairstyle that will compliment your features you will first have to decide what shape your face is, the type of hair you now have, and of course your own unique personality. The basic face shapes include oval, rectangular or oblong, round, square, heart, triangular and diamond. Now, on to deciding which hairstyle looks the best with your face shape.

An oval face shape gives you the opportunity to wear practically any hairstyle from long hairstyles to medium hairstyles to short hairstyles. If your face shape is rectangular or oblong your best bet would be short hairstyles or medium hairstyles. Celebrities with rectangular faces include Kirstie Alley, Stephanie Seymour and Janet Jackson.

A round face should wear short hairstyles that sweep back away from the face, adds more fullness and height at the crown. Kate Winslet, Christina Ricci, and Drew Barrymore all have round faces and look great with a variety of hairstyles.

Square face shapes should wear short hairstyles to medium hairstyles and should stay away from straight long hairstyles. Celebrities with square shape faces include Demi Moore, Sandra Bullock and Holly Marie Combs.

Heart shape faces should wear hairstyles that are either chin length or long hairstyles and short hairstyles should be avoided. Michelle Pfeiffer, Lucy Lawless, and Claudia Schiffer all belong in the heart shape face club.

If you have a triangular shape face then this is the exact opposite of the heart shape face. You should wear short hairstyles. Kathy Ireland is a great example of a celebrity with a triangular shaped face.

The diamond shape face is as great to have as an oval. You can wear short hairstyles, medium hairstyles and long hairstyles and look absolutely gorgeous.

How to Choose the Proper Bra

This means that two thirds of the females living on the face of the earth live with discomfort from wearing wrong sizes of bras. A bra sizes chart is different for every country; you should search the Internet for the bra size chart that uses the same measuring system as your country. The first thing that you will find in a bra size chart is the underbust size, or also known as the band-size or the lower bust measurement. You measure the underbust by measuring directly under your breasts.

Those measurements are the overbust measurements which is basically the measurement of your breasts around the fullest part of it. Once you obtain that measurement, you compare it against the corresponding figure that you can find on the bra size chart and obtain your cup size.

Once you get your bra by using a bra chart, you can now try out the bra and see if it fits you well. There are certain problems with a breast chart. Some girls with large breasts will find that the bra size charts found on the Internet are not totally accurate or have deviations in the measurements to obtain cup sizes.

This is because larger breast women usually have their own unique breast size and this will cause deviations in the measurements which explain why they cannot get an accurate reading from the breast chart. In conclusion, wearing a proper fitted bra is important for your comfort.

Try not to be in the two thirds of the female population that wears the wrong sized bra.

Shoping While Saving

Ask any girl what her dream would be and she will most likely tell you going shopping and being able to buy an unlimited quantity of dresses, clubwear, and clothing that she wants. For most girls, shopping is almost as necessary as breathing. Unfortunately, nobody is offering us an unlimited credit card to go shopping with, so we have to suffice with our budget cuts.

There are three things you should know if you want to get expensive clothes for cheap. When do you go shopping if you want to get steals? The trick is to know when these times occur. During most holiday seasons, there are major discounts as well as right after the holiday.

The times when stores make their sales is when they have a lot of overstock and are looking for cash for their inventory. Therefore, because stores buy a lot for the holiday seasons and are expecting to sell most of it, the items that they still have a lot left of, will go on a major sale, depending on how desperate the store is to sell it. Another major sale time is at the end of every season. When a new season is forthcoming, stores want to make room for the new inventory so they have to move out the past season's dresses. This is a really good time to get what you need for extremely inexpensive prices.

Where do you go shopping for inexpensive prices? There are many stores out there that sell brand name dresses and clubwear for much less than what you would pay if you were to go to the actual brand name store. So if you're looking for brand name companies, your best bet would be to go to department stores that sell them for cheap. Outlets are also an ideal place to go to find steals because they sell the actual store's clothing but for a lot cheaper. Also, when you go shopping, don't go to store that are out of your budget range.

When you are shopping, there are a lot great bargains that are very easily missed. For example, in the department stores, they will put together a huge rack of clothing that is discounted very high. You should also check the shelves that are discounted; many times they make a major dent in the price and it falls within your range.

Tips to be a Beauty Advisor

Becoming a successful beauty advisor takes a lot of practice and certain skill.

Instructions
a Genuine Smile
Self-esteem
Understanding of Colors
Really Supportive Shoes

1. The first step to being successful is customer service. You have to provide outstanding service to every customer that comes into your department to be able to establish regular customers and build your popularity among them. The next step is probably the hardest. Your store will set certain goals for you to meet with your cash register. The cosmetics cash register isn't in the front of the store were the customers are used to checking out so you have to constantly walk to the front of the store and back to your cosmetics register all day to get people to check out with you.

2. You must meet or exceed these goals or you will constantly be talked to about the importance of the goals and eventually let go of the position.

3.  The red zone includes all of your cosmetics, shampoos, lotions, soaps, razors, deodorants and hair dyes. Your register is usually placed in the center of all these products so that you can fully watch everyone in your department. The store wants you to reach a certain number of sales on your register, but it wants you to catch all the red zone sales on only your register. The goal is usually around 41% up to 50% of the sales on your register for red zone products. It's very hard to catch the customers with red zone products because a lot of them want to pay in the pharmacy or the go to the photo department to pick up pictures and pay. Step four closely follows step three because hidden in your red zone are many items that earn you commission. The commission rate varies on the different products and can be as much as 5.00 per item but most are between 5% and 10% of the price the item is sold for. If you can be lucky enough to make 10.00 extra dollars a day, you will have 100.00 extra dollars on your paycheck if you work a five day work week. The extra money really adds up and is a huge incentive at meeting your red zone sales by getting customers to come to your cash register. The final step in being a successful beauty advisor also includes you making sure your department is completely put together.

4. No one wants to buy a dusty shampoo bottle or a defective pump hairspray.

Perfume Scent

We may be around people who do not like the perfume or cologne we are wearing. Let's discuss some perfume etiquette tips that will certainly help solve this dilemma, shall we?.

When someone applies too much perfume or cologne, what you smell is a fragrance, and not their signature scent. Your perfume scent should not make a statement by itself. Applying perfume or cologne should be done in a way that allows the fragrance to interact with your body chemistry to produce your personalized version of the scent - your signature scent.

Etiquette Tips

One of the secrets of having proper perfume etiquette is learning where to apply the perfume or cologne so it interacts with your body chemistry without disrupting the environment around you. If you make people sneeze, that probably means you applied way too much perfume. Please refer to our How To Apply and Wear Perfume page located on the right blue panel.

Be very careful when applying perfume or cologne on your clothes. Even though your garments will hold on to your perfume scent, they can also get stained.

Perfume And Cologne Scents Tips

Accessible and affordable has not been traditionally related to perfume and cologne. You can now afford to create your own fragrance wardrobe: a collection of perfume or cologne scents to match your lifestyle, events and moods.

Match your scent selection with the time of day, time of year and purpose. Day and summer fragrances should be lighter than evening and winter fragrances. You may have your favorite work fragrances and your very effective dating fragrances. Isn't it great that you can have a collection of perfumes or colognes to choose from?

History of Aromatherapy

The History of Aromatherapy dates back at least to 4000 BC,  although the term “aromatherapy” was first used in the 1920s by the French chemist René Maurice Gattefossé who accidentally discovered in laboratory that lavender oil relives pain and assists to slight burns healing. The word “Aromatherapy” is a compound

Greek word made up by the word fragrance (aroma) and the word treatment (therapy).
It is historically proved that the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, and Persians used to use aromatherapy oils. In ancient Egypt, plant oils were widely used for cosmetics, spiritual relaxation, as well as for embalming and mummification of their deads. As a consequence of the Egyptians’ love for aromatic plants and herbs, the fragrance industry and aromatic medicine were developed more than in any other ancient culture.

The history of Aromatherapy leads us to Ancient Greece. Asclepius (circa 1200 BC) is the first known physician in history who experimented with herbs and plants in his surgeries. Hypocrites (circa 400 BC), “the father of medicine”, studied the beneficial effects of hundreds of scented plants and herbs. Other Greek physicians who dealt with herbs and aromatic oils are Pedacius Dioscorides and Theophrastus who prescribed herbal and aromatic remedies.

Ibn Sina, a great physician of the age, known in Europe as Avicenna (circa 1000 AC), invented a pipe which steam distilled the plants and produced true essential oils and not aromatic waters as in the past.

After the Catholic Crusaders returned from the Holly Places, many aromatics, herbal remedies and scented plants of the Middle East became well known to Europe. Along with the exploration of the East, merchants brought to Europe new aromatherapy remedies and a rich variety of exotic plants and herbs. Moreover essential oils were used in fumigation of hospitals. At the same period of the history of Aromatherapy, physicians, pharmacists and chemists used to distillate more plants to create essentials oils and many of them published books about aromatic remedies and the use of aromatherapy essential oils for relaxation and pharmaceutical purposes.

Consequently, many essential oil industries were established throughout Europe, providing oils for the pharmaceutical, flavour and fragrance purposes.

The history of Aromatherapy continues during the 20th century, when many aromatherapists contributed their knowledge to aromatherapy and created more natural products and more effective and pleasurable techniques. The idea was further developed by an Austrian biochemist named Marguerite Maury that used essential oils as an integral part of healing massage and practiced the use of aromatherapy for cosmetic benefits.

The first book in the history of Aromatherapy published in the English language was the “Art of Aromatherapy” written by the English aromatherapist Robert B. Tisserand in 1977. Nowadays, the popularity of essential oils and aromatherapy rises especially in the Western World. Aromatherapy has become fundamental for alternative and holistic medicine. Numerous studies and books about Aromatherapy and the healing power of essential oils are published and more natural products are created for therapeutic, cosmetic and aromatic benefits.

History of Cosmetic

The first archaeological evidence of cosmetics usage was found in Ancient Egypt in the year 4,000 BC.
The Ancient Greeks and Romans also used cosmetics.

The Romans and Ancient Egyptians, not realizing their dangerous properties, used cosmetics containing mercury and white lead.

Fragrances, particularly frankincense and myrrh are mentioned in the Christian Bible: Exodus 30: 34, Gospel of Matthew 2:11.

Ancient Egyptians had a wide extent of make-up utensils. One of them is kohl, which was used to outline the eyes. It is made up of lead, copper, burned almonds, soot, and other ingredients. It was believed that eye make-up could ward off evil spirits and improve the sight. Even the poor wore eye make-up in ancient Egypt.

The production of cosmetics during ancient Rome was usually done by female slaves called Cosmetae.
